Since 1969 he has been exploring the relationship between painting and theatre through marionettes.
He designs and constructs puppets and marionettes in wood, material and papier-maché; he makes masks,
costumes and scenery; he has written, directed and chosen the music for four shows: Gesta,
the Tragical History of Doctor Faust, Three Fragments for Chamber Theatre, Alice.
In 1979 he founded the Chamber Theatre for marionettes, destined for private showings; fourteen
articulated marionettes, made of wood, leather and strings, perform tragedies, opera and musical theatre.
The theatre work on paper, using ink, tempera, watercolour, and engraving techniques,
includes studies on the construction and movement of the marionettes, sketches of characters, costumes,
masks, and scenery connected to shows which have been either completed as projects, or produced from 1969 to 1989.
