Since 1990 Dario Serra has made black reflective surfaces in synthetic compressed lacquer.
The surfaces which are sprayed with lacquer are perfectly smooth and flat; sometimes they have
minimal undulations and relief, or they are manipulated so that the lacquer flows and settles into various patterns.
The lacquer works are made with imprints; sometimes they are surrounded in illusionist frames in gold or silver leaf,
or they are presented as shapes and emblems against decorative backgrounds.
The works may have vertical or horizontal positions, and they may connect with one another in sequences,
polyptychs and screens: they extend to the point where one can walk around their three-dimensional spaces.
